To confess and receive attention are different things. When it comes to healing through words, we need a human-to-human connection. This is a fact.
Cognitive therapy executed by bots tends to disguise what is fundamental: the therapeutic relationship. We can speak because there is someone else paying attention and making the effort to understand us.
Most of the time, perceiving that effort is what enlightens our capacity to make that effort for ourselves. We imitate the way we are being heard and treated by the therapist.
The therapist must have life experience, therapy experience, both as a patient and as a therapist, and the capacity to empathize with others' pain.
If we only rely on cognitive commands, we forget that we are establishing a relationship with a bot that does not have the capacity to feel and understand that it is establishing a relationship.
So even though Siri, Alexa, Woebot, and all AI apps know about you, your goals, your voice, and your favorite foods, you are not establishing a relationship.
Relationships allow us to incorporate elements from other past and present relationships, from which most of our experiences come. So, discussing things within the therapeutic relationship allows you to see aspects you might not see otherwise.
In other words, you act within the therapeutic relationship based on what is still happening to you in your most primitive relationships. Being able to act brings it to light. It offers a chance to understand, allow yourself to feel, and reduce self-criticism in order to make your relationships more harmonious.
With SMARTWHATSAPP, you subscribe and receive daily exercises in a general way, or focused on a specific goal if you have one. Whatever you feel during that exercise, you have the option to chat with me via WhatsApp to give your feelings a broader perspective and relate them to your relationship with yourself, your family, and your work.
I'm not a bot.
